dude with GI

i tried lighting the scene with Global Illumination, this method works well with still image composites..  but i'm not so sure about using it with footage...  there's also some lights in this scene to cast shadows, but i forgot how to properly remove the white from the shadow pass rendering in After Effects..  i bet it's something really simple like a single button click somewhere...  :(
